Brian Goldstein

Brian Goldstein is a PhD candidate in the Doctoral Program in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Planning at Harvard University.  He studies the social and political history of the built environment, focusing on the United States in the latter half of the 20th century. He is especially interested in the intersection of civil rights movements and architecture and planning, the history of community development, and grassroots responses to urban policy. His dissertation examines urban development in Harlem, New York from 1961 to 2001. He previously worked in the U.S. General Services Administration’s Office of the Chief Architect in Washington, DC. He holds a BA in Visual and Environmental Studies and an MA in Architecture from Harvard University. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio.
