Mickey Ashmore
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Mickey Ashmore embodies typical Texan values – a warm personality, affinity for people, and love of the outdoors. He attended the Greenhill School in Dallas, Texas where he was a member of the varsity basketball team, editor-in-chief of an award winning newspaper, and a member of several clubs and honor societies.
He currently attends the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business where he is concentrating in Finance and Real Estate. He is a brother and formal social chair of the Zeta Psi Fraternity, an internationally diverse group of young men that has been a major inspiration for his global endeavors. He was also selected to be a Management TA, in which he coaches leadership, communication, and team skills to Wharton freshmen as they plan and implement a community service project, give presentations, and overcome the hardships of first semester.
Mickey has a strong creative and entrepreneurial flair. During his junior and senior years in high school, he started EasyConsignment.com, an online consignment service which facilitated the sale of highly-valued items using competitive online marketing techniques. The business was a resounding success – resulting in over $100,000 of revenue in the first summer and much local publicity. Mickey claims the greatest reward from the business was learning to manage customer relationships and employees while creating and sustaining competitive advantages in the industry.
He has continued to pursue his entrepreneurial passions as an active member in Wharton’s community. When not pursuing entrepreneurial projects, Mickey worked in the real estate industry for his family’s business, United Commercial Realty, as well as a retail and residential real estate developer in Dallas, Texas. Mickey also spent one summer studying Italian and Art History in Florence and spent time in India at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad where he learned about doing business in India.
Outside of school and business, Mickey’s creativity and thirst for the unknown have not been unsatisfied. He describes his three main passions as research, exploration, and creation. These passions are realized through his hunger for adventurous travel which he documents in photography and creative writing on his website, MickeyAshmore.com. Highlights of his travels have led him from the rowdy streets of Rio de Janeiro to the north Indian Himalayas and even the jungles of Borneo. In all of these trips, he strives for authentic experiences allowing him to connect and understand the local people. In Borneo, he spent nearly a week living with Dusun tribesmen deep in the jungle.
Mickey is currently studying abroad in Hong Kong at the University of Science & Technology, and will return to the United States this summer as an intern in the real estate investment banking division of Goldman Sachs in New York.
After graduation, he intends to pursue a career in finance and real estate with a hint of sustainable development and tourism. He hopes to live abroad, possibly in Istanbul or Buenos Aires.
