Mamelodi Initiative

The Mamelodi Initiative provides educational opportunities to young people in Mamelodi Township, while building local leadership. The Mamelodi Initiative effectively provides intensive support to young people with its Summer and Winter Jams, its computer literacy courses, its youth leadership council, and its E-Kasi LearnIN. The videos provided at their website make clear how empowering these programs are, and how critical the networks are that the learners build through the Mamelodi Initiative. Seeing how many of the volunteers and staff are returning Mamelodi Initiative learners is truly impressive. Clearly the short-term impacts of these programs lead to meaningful long-term impacts.
The funds provided this year will be used a) to scale up the organization’s recently launched Saturday program and b) to hire an experienced development officer to increase the long-term stability of the organization. This, hopefully, will allow Mamelodi Initiative to have an even bolder impact, not just in Mamelodi, but in other township communities.
